Road / Side New Mexico

Leaving the streets of New York City, I ditched my walking shoes for hiking boots and a car. Staying in New Mexico, which I now consider my second home, I pondered the mythic Southwest and one its iconic features: Route 66, another symbol of the US and the freedom afforded by car travel. As a child, my father bought a Chevrolet Impala and my family of 5 jammed in to literally “See the USA in a Chevrolet.” Coming back to this far but somehow familiar landscape was filled with recognition and surprise. While the state of New Mexico was mostly shuttered due to COVID, the road remained an open space for majestic vistas rich with the contents of Americana.
