Boxcar Screen
Santa Fe, New Mexico, 2021
As a photographer, I am constantly viewing my surroundings in two ways: seeing an object and people as they are and as geometric forms. I am strongly influenced by painting and here I draw inspiration from Renaissance painter Piero Della Francesca, a mathematician who applied his understanding of geometry to his figurative paintings. When I came across this screen--a white rectangle against brightly colored quadrangles--my mind responded with delight. It is like a cognitive caress when I find something this intriguing to photograph. The prospect of seeing a moving image on a screen excites me, having worked for years in filmmaking and media.
