Self-Portrait: Rose

Brooklyn, NY, 2021

In the genre of self-portraiture, capturing mood is essential. These photographs are made with a series of colored lights and a translucent backdrop with painted trees by artist Audrey Anastasi. I deliberately chose the pink and blue palettes given their reference to Picasso's blue and rose periods. Here, in pink, I emerge from the dark and look out of the curtain with an open watchful eye vs. the blue portrait of darkness and despair. Living through Covidtime bore twin themes of hope and fear.
